Summary: This resolve requires the Department of Health and Human Services to apply by January 1, 2008 for a federal waiver to operate a MaineCare waiver program to allow a person with a brain injury who is eligible for services at the nursing facility level to choose to receive services in a home or in a community-based


LD 24 An Act to Make Failure to Wear a Seat Belt a Primary Offense 

Current law prohibits the enforcement of the seat belt law unless the driver has been stopped for a violation of another law. This bill repeals that prohibition, allowing a police officer to detain and cite a vehicle operator or passenger 18 years of age or older solely for failing to wear a seat belt


LD 1909 An Act to Establish the Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Council 

Summary: This bill establishes the Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Council to provide oversight and advice and to make recommendations to the Commissioner of Health and Human services and the Director of the Office of Adults with Cognitive and Physical Disability Services, the Director of the Maine Center for Disease Control.


LD 722 An Act to Create the Acquired Brain Injury Fund 

Summary: This bill establishes the Acquired Brain Injury Fund and the Acquired Brain Injury Advisory Council. This bill makes ongoing General Fund appropriations of $1,400,000 per year for the fund

Legislatives Advocacy

The BIAME advocates for legislation to improve the quality of life for people living with brain injuries while supporting the initiatives that help prevent brain injuries from occurring.

Our Community Advocate works closely with our state legislators to educate them on brain injury, and also works with other community organizations to keep abreast of current legislation that may affect those we serve.
